KABOOM! This post was nuked. Why? Because us Opponauts are held to a higher standard than other forum members. Racism, sexism, or any other bigotry will not stand in this forum under our watch.

~ Party-vi

edit: to be clear, this shouldn't reflect badly on 1CARFREAK1 - just a lapse in judgement on their part.

Phew! For a minute I thought misogyny was back in fashion...

It's one thing to make snarky remarks about BMW, Ferrari, Prius etc...drivers. Because we all know that is in good fun, but actually implying that women, Asians, or whoever are inferior is not cool on Oppo.

True, but 1) look closely near the end of the vid and you'll see that it was a woman driving and 2) this vid comes from the country I live in so there's nothing racist in it at all.

Heh, I didn't even know there was such a thing on Oppo... Although could you point out exactly what was deemed offensive? Look closely through the smoke at the end of the vid and i'm sure you'll find that it actually was a woman driving.

I understand where you are coming from and yes it was a woman driving and I dont' think you were being racist. But to imply, even in jest, that the Saudi cleric was right that women should not be driving can come across as misogynistic, I don't think you were trying to convey this intentionally and just having some fun. But we try to be better than that around here.

Your statement about the Saudi cleric being correct that women should not be allowed to drive was a bit sexist. Your comment was pretty much "LOL women can't drive look at this one. Women AMIRITE?" It wasn't terrible but still needed removed - we have female forum members who are a valued contributors on here.

Regardless of who was driving we're trying to keep comments like that off of Oppo.

So.... sexism is not allowed, in order not to offend the valuable female contributors. Cool.

What about the soft pornography, though (NSFW-tagged or otherwise). Why is that OK?

Kinja'd!!!2

Sexism is not allowed because we don't demean any type of person on this forum, not solely to pander to female contributors. FYI we also don't like shit-stirring posts with religious or political topics; those MUST be in a reply or after a jump and content must be kept in the thread. Racist or sexist comments (as well as NSFW content posted on the main page) will result in a post being nuked. If it's done intentionally again the author will most likely be booted for a while.

The soft pornography is allowed because 1) it's behind a NSFW tag and 2) we're not using it to demean women or any other groups. Any commenter can post male or female pornography at their discretion , it just so happens most of the porn posted is of the female gender.

I'm not trying to play Devil's advocate here, but I really don't see the distinction. Pornography is by definition sexist, isn't it? It reduces the subject to an object of sexual desire, not a person with intelligence and emotions. The fact that you permit objectification of both sexes doesn't make it any less sexist, does it?

I don't think you understand the definition of sexism -prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex.

There is no prejudice or discrimination in the pornography posted here (unless you count me posting butts as discriminatory against posting breasts). Even so, pornography as a means to objectify women and men is still an ongoing debate even in the feminist community. The reduction of any subject in a picture (whether male or female) to an object is done by the viewer, not by the poster. 1CARFREAK1 showed prejudice in that they supported the view that women should not be allowed to drive due to one documented instance of an accident that may or may not have involved a woman driving.

Pornography is sexist, as it demeans the gender of the subject in favour of the gender of the viewer. That's discriminatory, right?

I totally agree with your stance on the perceived sexism in the post that you nuked.

I personally feel that pornography should be treated the same way. I wouldn't want my kids to be looking at that stuff, even if some of the content on here is awesome.

This is my opinion, and I reserve the right to my opinion as much as you reserve the right to ignore it.

I agree with everything you posted, which is why all NSFW content goes behind a jump :)

If not, the mods step in and change the post to get the NSFW off the main page. Also please don't feel as if I'm being dismissive of your opinion; I'm offering insight into why pornography is allowed on Oppo. You have every right to disagree with my opinion just like I have every right to disagree with your own. If you don't like pornography behind a link on the main page of Oppo might I suggest not clicking on said link?

edit: We'll have to respectfully agree to disagree, as I still feel any demeaning of a subject is done in the mind of the viewer and not all people look at pornography as a way to demean the subjects portrayed within (granted there are fetishes that do so but we'll limit this conversation to the softcore posts on Oppo). In my personal opinion pornography posted here is not discriminatory. I do not speak for all of the moderators and they are free to do as they please regarding NSFW posts.

Oh yes, I don't click on a link if it says NSFW. I just wouldn't trust my kids to show the same restraint.

I still don't get why a poster is innocent of demeaning and only a viewer is. I agree that we're going to have to respectfully agree to disagree, sir.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my opinions. Carry On!
